Suggestions for getting the CT6000 Video
Blaster card to work with Windows 95
October 5, 1995
Depending on when you purchased your Video Blaster and the software you
recieved, you will have to use one of the two setup methods below.
Because Windows 95 already has an updated version of Video For Windows
runtime, I would not recommend installing Video For Windows 1.0 into Windows
95 due to potential DLL and DRV conflicts.:
OLD - SOFTWARE
--------------
1. From MS-DOS mode, type A: or B: and enter.
2. Type "VB-HD C:" where "C" is the destination drive letter. 3. It then
copies the associated files into the C:\VBLASTER directory.
4. It will run the VBSETENV program to configure the environment. After the
program is complete, reboot the system with either the reset button or
turning it off and on. CTRL-ALT-DEL will not properly reset the card,
especially if values other than the default are used.
Note: the CT6000 is software configured, there are no jumpers.
5. Either in Windows Explorer or a DOS prompt, copy the following files into
the C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM directory:
C:\VBLASTER\WINDOWS\MCIVBLST.DRV
C:\VBLASTER\WINDOWS\PCVIDEO.DLL
6. Edit the SYSTEM.INI and add the following line to the [mci] section:
Overlay=mcivblst.drv
The overlay driver should now be listed under Control Panel -> Multimedia
-> Advanced tab -> Media Control Devices
7. At this point, you'll probably want to setup the Video Blaster program
group and setup ICONS for the Video Kit, VBW Setup, and VB Sound programs
(the three EXE files in the C:\VBLASTER\WINDOWS directory). The old
VB-HD program does not create the group itself.
NEW SOFTWARE
------------
1. Run the INSTALL.EXE program from a DOS prompt. It automatically copies
the files and has a WINSETUP program which adds the overlay driver and
creates the program group. WINSETUP will cause a copy of Program Manager
to start which you can close when it's finished.
EITHER SOFTWARE
---------------
1. Now, to install the capture driver, you need to download the file
VBVW11.EXE from LIB 4, Video Files, to get the capture driver for Video
For Windows 1.1. Extract the file to a temporary directory. Go to
Control Panel -> Add Hardware -> Don't Detect -> Double Click
Sound/Video/Game Controllers -> Have Disk -> temporary directory path
-> Highlight "Creative Labs VFW Driver" -> Click OK -> Click Finish to
copy the files. You have to hit "OK" twice. Once for the capture driver,
and once for the codec part. Restart Windows.
In the kits that shipped with Video For Windows 1.0, the capture driver was
on the Video For Windows Driver's diskette. This driver does not work
properly with Video For Windows 1.1 (I tried it, it stops capturing after the
first couple frames).
================
For systems with 16MB or more of system RAM, we have a BETA file availble you
can try to see if VideoKit can capture a single image. The file, VBINST.EXE
won't do anything for Video For Windows. If you want to try this file,
download BAGREE.TXT avialble in LIB 1, General Information and follow the
enclosed instructions for getting access to the Beta Library of our Forum.
